ii – Come to Church in Pairs

This Saturday is our next big night, it is also our 2 year anniversary celebration and to celebrate, we are kicking off a brand new series and having a baptism. Our challenge this week is for everyone to come to church in pairs (meaning, bring someone).

As we kick of The Blessed Life, we will look at how to handle loneliness, something all of us have dealt with at one time or another. We will look at what we hope to get out of relationships, marriage, friendships and ask if they will ever give us the fulfillment we long for and meet the needs that we have. And if not, what do we do about that? I think it is going to be a powerful night.

Here are some easy ways to invite someone:

  • Just ask. 84% of Americans said they would go to church if someone asked, so ask.
  • Take your friend out to eat after church.
  • Tell them they can go to church and still sleep in on Sunday.
  • Make a sign and put it in your yard. Did you know that almost 20% of people who come to Revolution for the first time come because they saw a sign.
  • Send them an e-vite.
  • Kidnap them.

Also this week, be praying for the following things:

  • That God would give courage, opportunity and the words to Revolutionaries who are inviting friends.
  • That their friends would be open to coming.
  • That all the details of the night would run smoothly and that God move in powerful ways that night as people take their next step in their spiritual journey and take that step of becoming a follower of Jesus.

Invite Cards

For many people at Revolution, the way they found their way to Revolution was through an invite. While people find their way through signs, the web or other adertising, the best way is an invite. Almost 80% of our church has come because of an invite from a friend.

This is why we are big fans of invite cards.

This past Saturday, we spent several minutes in our service praying for the names on our invest and invite cards and for our next big day on April 3rd. It was really a holy moment in the service.

If you have not grabbed some invite cards for April 3rd, make sure you do so this Saturday night.

Here is a list of what to do with invite cards and how to use them (courtesy of Here to Lead):

  1. Hand them to people you meet and say “I’d love to invite you to my church.”
  2. Give them out in drive thru lanes.
  3. Put a stack at your office, store or place of work.
  4. Ask if you can set a stack out in a business that you frequent.
  5. Give them to neighbors, friends and co-workers.
  6. Leave them on tables at restaurants to invite your server.
  7. Make a list of five people and go seek them out.
  8. Ask God to give you an opportunity to give them out.
  9. Give them out in the lunchroom or before class begins.
  10. Keep a few in your wallet, purse or car.

Saturday Night Mind Dump…

  • I am constantly blown away by what God is doing at Revolution
  • Tonight was no different
  • Shared about our next big day, which is on April 3rd
  • We have a goal of 150 for that night
  • Can’t wait to see how God moves and changes lives that night
  • It was so cool praying in small groups tonight for the people on our invest and invite cards
  • Love hearing people asking God to change their friends lives
  • Seriously, if each of us brought one person, imagine what that would mean
  • Our next partnership class is tomorrow, love being able to share the story of Revolution, our mission, where we’re going and seeing people jump on board with that

  • We did communion differently tonight, the elders served it to people as they came forward

The Big Night

The Big Night idea is something I picked up in my coaching network with Nelson Searcy and through his book Ignite. The idea around the big night “is to create an all-out push where you encourage your church to do the invite part of the invest and invite strategy toward a single weekend for the purpose of breaking the next growth barrier and setting an attendance record in order to reach as many people as possible for Jesus.”

As a staff team, we recently spent some time working through Nelson Searcy’s seminar on the big night to try to figure out how best to use this strategy at Revolution.

While we create our services in such a way that we want you to bring people any week (and people do) and you should feel comfortable bringing someone with you on any week, there are certain weeks through the year that are strategic in that area:  February, Easter weekend, the month after school starts.

By doing several big nights throughout the year, we are able to keep our friends in front of our church at all times. We are able to be planning, praying and thinking about who we can invite by reminding our church that people don’t know Jesus. Sadly, this is easy to forget the longer you follow Jesus.

As a church, when we set a goal for a big day, we can be praying towards that goal. We see God increase our prayer, our faith, our excitement and anticipation about what He is going to do in our lives, our church and in the lives of those who will be impacted by a big day.

The goal is to spend time praying and thinking about who you are building relationships with and then when you feel the right moment, invite them to the big day. The big night will either start a series or be in a series that will speak specifically to a not yet Christian in a way that makes sense to them.

We will also have invite cards as a way to make it easier for each of us to invite our friends, leave them around the office and post them at different spots around the city.
